I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist offering individual counseling for adults in Wilmington, NC.
I began my career providing treatment to individuals living with substance use disorders and addiction in the early stages of recovery. I was particularly drawn to engaging with the family members who were impacted by addiction to support them in their healing. No one exists in a vacuum, and healing the relationships affected by addiction is an integral part of the recovery process.
I then spent two years as a Clinical Social Worker at a psychiatric hospital working with patients experiencing a wide range of acute mental health symptoms. This experience gave me a deep appreciation for the challenges facing people living with chronic conditions, both mental health and medical, and how inextricably connected our mental and physical health truly are. I became particularly passionate about working with these individuals and their family members to cope with the changes in abilities, relationships, and lifestyles that often accompany chronic conditions. Depression, anxiety, grief, and dysfunctional use of substances are often the unnamed companions of chronic illness, but are no less important to address. I am also experienced at working with individuals on pain management and/or opiate replacement therapies including Subutex and Suboxone.
For the past several years, I have worked in outpatient settings offering individual and couples counseling. In addition to chronic illness and chronic pain, some of my areas of interest include working with people experiencing life transitions, relationship issues, women’s issues, and feelings of being “stuck”.
I take a person-centered approach to therapy which is strengths-based and solution-focused. I have found that therapy is most impactful when evidence-based practices are balanced with a healthy dose of being human. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based interventions, among others. I strongly believe in the power of the mind-body connection, and its ability to facilitate growth and change. I aim to create a space for my clients to be who they are, where they are, without judgement in a creative and collaborative atmosphere.
